The long and short of it is...ice speedskating is a sport for all ages and skill levels, from the beginning novice through Olympic and world class speedskaters. Whether you choose entry level skating, are looking for a recreational experience or a viable cross training alternative, or want a chance at the Olympic rings, speedskating offers unique developmental opportunities for athletic involvement and success. We are sad to share the news that an OSSA member passed away on Monday July 5th. Dave Ramsden was a valuable member of the Kingston Striders club and their Head Coach for many years. Dave will be remembered fondly and our thoughts are with his wife Fran and daughter Denise. At this time no information regarding memorial services is available. If you would like to be notified when it becomes available please contact jdeschenes@speedskatingontario.org. |
OSSA News: - An update to the draft competition calendar is now available. Please click to view and read the notes below:
- We need a Western Regional in October, London is seeking a venue. Please contact jdeschenes@speedskatingontario.org if you can get ice for this meet. It is important that the first meet is a go before Ontario Cup #1.
- We need a venue for the Eastern Regional on December 4. This is important, otherwise ability skaters will not be racing for a long period of time.
- If anyone is interested in hosting the Eastern Regional Canadians at the end of March please contact jdeschenes@speedskatingontario.org. SSC is looking for a host and has asked Ontario to assist by hosting the first one.
- Congratulations to the OSSA members that have been named to National Teams!
- In addition to hosting Coaching Clinics and a summer camp the Gloucester Concords are hosting an Officials Level 1 Clinic on August 22nd. If you are interested in attending this clinic please contact odc@speedskatingontario.org.
